Publishing News:

UPDATE: Download the Judge's letter granting a four-month extension by clicking here (PDF Format, 20.8 KB).

ORIGINAL STORY: The Philip K Dick Trust joined a small coalition of copyright holders including John Steinbeck’s heirs in asking a federal court judge for an extension to the deadline for authors and their heirs to "opt-in" or "opt-out" of a proposed settlement agreement between Google and the Author's Guild. The request which was filed on Friday, April 24th seeks to give all book authors another four months to respond to the 334-page settlement proposed last October after the Author’s Guild sued Google for massive copyright violations in its Google Book Search product. The deadline is May 5th, 2009. Google’s Book Search lets people search and read portions of Philip K. Dick’s books, and millions of others, online.

Paul Williams was a long-time friend of our father and author of the 1974 Rolling Stone interview that was a milestone in our father achieving the mainstream recognition he so craved. After our father passed away in 1982, Paul was instrumental in nurturing our father's legacy as literary executor. For the first eleven years after our father's death, Paul spear-headed publication of our father's never before published realist novels. During this time he also created and edited the Philip K. Dick Society Newsletter.

Paul was severely injured in a bicycle accident a number of years ago. This accident has caused him to suffer from early onset of dementia, and a steady decline to the point where he now requires full-time care. The burden on his immediate family has been immense.

We hope that you will take a minute to look at our good friend Paul Williams' website at http://willamato.com/posting/paulwilliams.

Thank you from Laura, Isa and Christopher.
